Frequently Asked Questions
Do you see any clients face to face?
I used to see clients F2F for many years but since 2020 my practice has been exclusively online.
Are you qualified to work online?
Yes, in addition to my counselling qualifications, I am a Certified Cyber Therapist. This means that I have undertaken comprehensive training through OTI - the Online Therapy Institute to ensure I am working proficiently and ethically online.
What happens once I contact you?
I will contact you to arrange a free telephone assessment. This gives you a chance to give me a brief outline of what areas you'd like to discuss in therapy so that I can assess whether I'm the right Therapist to help you. It also gives you a chance to see whether you feel comfortable talking to me.
If we're both happy, then I'll send you some forms to complete and we will set a date for our first session.
How often will I need to see you?
Ideally, counselling is a weekly commitment and once you are given a day and time, each session will be on the same day and time each week. However, there is some slight flexibility around Bank Holidays and regularity of sessions are discussed with each client at the start of therapy. I do also offer a small amount of fortnightly slots for those clients on a budget.
How long will I need counselling for?
I offer open ended therapy and so the length of time we work together is for each client to decide. You will usually know when you are getting to the end of a stage in therapy and with regular check-ins, I will help you towards an ending that feels right for you.
It might help you to know that I do tend to work longer term with my clients due to the nature of the issues they bring.
How soon can I see you?
Once you have had your free telephone assessment, I can normally see you within one month, sometimes less, depending on availability at the time of the call.
Do you work with children?
No. I work with adults aged 18+ years.
If you have a child aged 11-18 years needing help, I can refer you to some excellent Child Therapists based in Southend-on-Sea or for those around the UK, I can recommend those who are working online. Alternatively, your child can access Kooth.com - Kooth is a transformational on-line mental health support service giving children and young people easy access to an online community of peers and access to a team of experienced counsellors. If you would like to find out more about Kooth click here.
Do you work with couples?
No, however much of my work is helping people who are experiencing relationship issues - often with Partners, but also with family and friends.
Do you offer supervision?
No, I'm afraid I do not offer supervision.
Sam listened, supported and guided me through a difficult time. She gave advice I could relate to and work with. She never judged, but only ever tried to understand. I am very grateful for all her support. El - 35
